Holiday Blog Post

Sorry this is late. I will be doing these thought the Holidays.
Here was  my first day (of the Holidays)!

First Day of Holidays

My holiday started when we finished school and I came home to afternoon tea. Now you are probably wondering what I had, but I'm sorry because I don't remember what I had. Lets not go on about the rest of the evening. Well I'm just going to say that we started watching a movie. The movie finished and it was around ten o'clock (10:00) at night. I have one little sister who played with me well the rest of our family watched something. When me and my sister was playing, I though it probably time to go to sleep. She tried to say that it wasn't time to go to sleep but I told her that she had too. Eventually we both fell asleep.

Ambassadors

If you saw my application for Ambassadors and thought I did a good job, well I have some news for you. You just need to read this!

It says my name which means that I'm a Ambassador for our school. I will be welcoming visitors and showing them how awesome Point England is.

Application to be an Ambassador in 2015

Introduction

This year I have boosted my learning in lots of different ways.  I have created movies and blog posts better than I’ve ever done before, and of course, shared them on my blog as well my class blog.  I have learnt new ways to do maths, writing and reading as well as PE and sports.

Learn

In maths, I have learnt my basic facts properly which has helped a lot with the more difficult topics.  In writing, I have learnt to have four or five sentences in one paragraph - as well as the structure of a whole piece of writing.  Starting each sentence with a different beginning makes the writing more interesting for the reader.  Reading has always been a favourite subject of mine.  But my favourite class this year has been extension.  I love the creative way that we learn new things.

Create

Creating DLO’s (Digital Learning Objective’s) has been a fun way to do work, not like other schools who don’t have the opportunity to learn with Chromebooks.  If you have a look through my blog, you will find some DLO’s that I have helped create this year.  I also took part in our class movie this year which played on the big screen at Sylvia Park Hoyts Cinema - which was so much fun!  I’ve been a presenter for PENN (our school’s TV station) - for the morning news report and learnt new ways of speaking and presenting in front of a camera, as well as increased my confidence - (pretty cool, since one day, I would love to be a TV presenter).

Share

Next year, I would love to increase my learning even more and so I am applying to be an Ambassador for my school.  Here is a whole lot of learning squeezed into one movie that is my application movie to be an Ambassador.  I hope you like it - it was lots of fun to make.

Coding

In Class 10 we have been learning about coding on our chrome book. Here is one that I made myself. Even though it's a square, I think that this counts as my square. Here is the link to do this. You can comment and show me a link to your own shape.

Jesus is Born

This story starts off with…  a young woman named Mary. Mary met a man called Joseph and married him. One night an angel appeared in Mary’s room and said “Mary you are going to have a baby and the baby is going to be the son of God”. When she heard this message she leaf to go and tell Joseph. That night Joseph an angel appeared but in his dream. He said the same thing that he said to Mary.

Baby Son
Before Jesus was born, Mary and Joseph had been told that they had to go to Bethlehem for Jesus to be born. When they came to Bethlehem lots of people were visiting and it was hard to find an inn to stay in. After lots of times trying to find an inn, they came to an inn and a the man said in a grumpy voice, “I only have a stable to stay in”. The couple were fine with a stable even though animals were in the stable was fill with animals.

Jesus’ Stable
After Jesus was born Shepherds from far away heard the news and not by just any body, they heard from three angels. The three angels spoke to the three Shepherds and said, “The son of God is born and you all must go to him”. Far away three wise men saw a star, and thought that it meant something because it didn’t look like any star it looked special. They followed the sar and it led to baby Jesus. When the wise men arrived, they came with Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh. That wonderful night will never be forgotten, ever!

Sustainability

In Extension we have been learning about Hokulea. You might be thinking that this has nothing to do with Hokulea, but Hokulea really loves the environment and Extension thought that we could do something with the environment. We really want Hokulea to come to our school so try and help any way you can. I forgot to ask you if you know about Sustainability? If you don't know what does Sustainability means, Sustainability means taking care of the environment with the economy's help to and your help. This video will teach you show you an example of sustainability (most of the end).

Auckland Art Gallery Trip

Year 5 trip to Auckland Art Gallery
Famous art work, year 5’s, Lego?  Did you guess what I'm writing about. Well you probably did because it has a  title. It all started on Friday the twenty first of November…  If you want to find out more you should read Friday day, which is this whole text.

Session One
Our first session was a gallery tour, which was my second favourite session. The gallery tour is when we went to two different rooms with our tour guide, Linda. We first went into the room with painting from the Victorian Era. When we went inside she asked us if we knew what the story was from the painting was about. None of us got the story, so then she told us. In the second room we did the same thing that we did in the first room expect we made it up. Linda taught us how to make different sorts of sounds. After we had finished session one we had our morning tea.

Session Two

All of a sudden Many, (one of the people who work there) came and showed us to a Studio, which looked like a class to me. When she showed us the room, she said,”when you get inside sit on a chair and start cutting the jar out”. So we cut the jar out. After we had finished cutting the jar out, we had to draw a story that happen in our lives by drawing. We had to use no words in our picture. None of us finished so our teacher took our jars to school and do it there. As soon as Mandy said line up we all sprinted to be the first one there. Just so you know, I was not the first one there. Once we had that session over, it was lunch time.

Session Three
Finally, the session that I have been waiting for. Free choice session…  but, the parents free choice. Parents had to pick out the learning area or center, Lego building and top floor. Our group went to the learning center and we had a lot of fun there. The thing that I thought we wouldn't do but did was…  top floor!
On the top floor we went with more people that were not in our group and there was a light show that we went to. When we went inside it was dark and we were all scared except for…  my Dad. We all were holding him tightly especially the boys, until…  we saw stars and walk to them but fell right onto the bean bag. After we had finished that chaos, we held onto my Dad and walked to the next room. We had to walk through a corridor that was dark, but we made to the next room. We danced in front of the video and realized that somebody was watching, so we ran out of the room because we were embarrass. With our extended group, we took off outside to a little playground. Once we had got tired, we thought we could go back. On our way back, we saw another class. When we came back from the top floor another group left to go there well we had our Lego building rotation.

Conclusion
I would there again but no in the bus with lots of noise. If you want to go there and try to prove me wrong, go ahead. Leave a comment if I did anything wrong…  which I probably didn't.

Week 4 Blog Post

Did you know that in 2014 (this year) we lit our fireworks on the same night as Britain? If you guest that I'm writing about fireworks you are right. On this day there was lots and lots of fireworks. Some frighted me, some I thought were pretty, some that I wanted to see but nobody did them and some we didn't get but I thought look awesome. Our family did our fireworks twice cause we had a lot. We did our fireworks on Wednesday and Saturday. On Wednesday we had 24 sparkles and on Saturday we had 32 sparkles. Even though we didn't have cascades, my favourite was cascades, it looks a bit like this.

If you think that I did anything wrong or there's anything else you want to tell me leave a comment telling me anything.

Chicken Bones

Do you love K.F.C?   Don't you feel like eating right now? Well I'm going to tell you how to get some right now.
Did I draw your attention? The text that you are going to read, is about a theory about Polynesians went to South America or if South Americans came to Polynesia.

Chicken bones were used to find out if South Americans came to Polynesia, or if the Polynesians went to the South America. They also found out that the chickens came from Polynesians, then to South America. Radiocarbon date of the chicken bones are used to help find out about history. The people who study about this, are called archaeologist.

Reading Maps-Maths

This week in maths, we did something different. We did four presentations. Our task was to get one of the presentations and post it. On the last map there is one that is not answered because nobody knew it. Some of it might be wrong, but I tried my best.

If you can please leave a comment:D

Hibernating Animals

In Class today, our teacher gave us a work sheet to do. On the work sheet it had a task for us which was to make a Google drawing showing picture of the six hibernation animals. After we have done that, we post a sentence or two about hibernation. So here it is!

A Hibernation animals has three steps.( Don't do this at home). First they either store food or eat the food.  Next they make or find a shelter for winter. Last of all, these animals fall into a deep, deep sleep.

Tatau-Extension

In Extension, we watched a short movie from the programme Tagata Pasifika  about Tufuga Suluape.  The short clip describes  a man who goes through the pain of a Tatau - or Samoan tattoo.  The man had to first ask his parent's permission and for their blessing to be able to get the Tatau.  A traditional Samoan Tatau artist will only do a Tatau on someone young who has their parent's blessing.  It is very painful to get one, but the man in the clip had decided that was what he really wanted to do.  His supported person - or a Sua, another close person to get their own Tatau at the same time, was his brother. One of the cool things is that he was his brothers Sua.  He got their tattoos done in front of a whole lot of people at Auckland University in the Centre for Pasifika studies. Because Tufuga Suluape was there for reason which I don't know, any body was allowed to watch. We were asked by Mrs Telea to think about if we would get a Tatau or not.  I thought about it and I thought that I wouldn't get one because, one: I'm too young and two: it looks really sore - and besides, I dislike needles intensely!  (It's a long story).  Maybe I might change my mind when I get older but my answer for now the answers no.

That's all I have to say to you for now but wait, you never know if I might post some thing.

Qualities of a Good Friend-Writing

Qualities of a Good (Great) Friend
Are you a good friend, an okay friend or a just a friend?  Well this text will lead you to one of the bests ways to be a great friend. First of all you need to get a friend. Next step, you need to follow my intrusions. After you have done this you will be a great friend.

Supportive
If want to be a great friend, one of the most important qualities is to be supportive to your friend. For example; When your friend is playing a game, you cheer them on so that they can feel better. There are lots of examples but we’ll stay with that today. Make sure that you do this because it is one of the most important qualities.

Respectful
Being Respectful is also another important qualities. Especially when your friend is telling you something. For example; a secret. When your being respectful to your friend its like being respectful to your teacher or your Mum and Dad. If you are reading this, you should make sure that you be respectful to your friends.

Honesty
Honesty is another important qualities. The way you use this is to tell the truth all the time. For example; if you want something and you say that you want it because you don’t have one but you lied, that means that you need to tell truth. Sometimes I think that honesty means the truth. This needs to be used a lot.

Conclusion
These three things that you have read, won’t just finish off how to be a great friend. There’s also lot more qualities to be a great friend. After you have finish reading this, make sure you take those three instructions and you will succeed.

Problem Solving

Answer this question by leaving a comment.

Sun Smart

Sun Smart
How do you be sun smart? If you don’t know what sunsmart is, it is being smart in the sun. For example; putting on sunblock on. Well if you want to know three things about being sun smart. This is how I’m going to tell you about being sunsmart. It is  by you reading the next three paragraphs.

Shade
There is this thing in that comes from the sun that is called UV radiation which you can’t see but you can feel . One way to be sunsmart is to stay under a umbrella, tree or anything else you can think of. The reason why you could be under something if you have no hat then you will probably going to get sun burnt. That’s why you need to stay in the shade if you have no hat.

Skin Cancer
Skin cancer can be caused by sunburn . That means we shouldn’t be in the sun too much. If we don’t protect ourselves then we might get sun burn, and that sometimes can give skin cancer and that is something that we don’t want to have. The reason why we should stay out of the sun most of the time, is because that we might die, so get serious about this. Get ready for summer.

   September-April
Did you know that from September to April, at 10am to 4pm is burn time?  Well if you don’t know what burn time is, it’s when the UV radiation is at it’s strongest. In this time you need to protect yourself from the sun. “Why do we have to do this?” you ask, well the reason why is because you could sunburnt, and you know where that leads right?

                           Conclusion
Since you and I have learnt more about being sunsmart, we can do it. So remember from September to April you stay in the shade or  put on a hat, and do this from 10am till 4pm. I hope you read the whole story not just this part of this text.

(Come back for more writing next week).

My Term Three Holiday Hilight

My Holiday Highlight
Th           Last day of term three 2014 and sort of the holiday when I home. Once I came home I packed my bag for a night at my Aunty's house. It took four hours to get there and back. I won’t go on and on about this so, we’re going to stop this introduction and carry on with this holiday of mine.   We  were going to Riverside camp. I thought that it was going to be boring but…   you’ll see what happen.

What Riverside is all about
Riverside camp has a club which is on  every Wednesday , except for the                 first week of school each  term.  Our camp in  not like any other camp, because we have four boy groups and four girl groups. In the groups we have leaders. We also have boy cabins and girls cabins. At camp we also have three boss’ of the camp and one of them was my Dad.

How it turned out

If you looked at the first paragraph it say “you’ll see what happen”, well this is that paragraph. It turned out really good camp. My group was called the all star, I made the name but I didn’t want that name. There was nine people in our group including our leaders. We had a person in our group who broke her leg which meant that we somethings in games we had one person short but in other games we were a fine team. At the end of camp our team won even though I didn’t want to.

Use my Brain, Use my Heart I’m going to be Cybersmart

Use my Brain, Use my Heart I’m going to be Cybersmart
You properly  haven’t unless you come to Pt England School. In case you haven't this text will show what it means bit by bit.

Use my Brain
You must be wondering, “What does use my brain mean”. Well this paragraph will show you the answer. I need my brain to do the right things on my chromebook.  For example; Staying on the right things like reading, writing and maths worksheets.

Use my Heart
Can I hear you saying what does, “use  my heart” have to do this phrase. I use my heart by doing the right thing. For example; Send a nice email to someone or a apologize email. We need our heart because it controls my emotions.

Cybersmart
One of the reasons we need to be cybersmart because when we are older we will be cybersmart.  We need to be cybersmart even when our friends or somebody puts pure pressure. Well remember to Use my Brain, Use my Heart you’re going to be Cybersmart. Thanks for reading my writing.

The Call of the Conch- Reading

Our task this week was to draw a picture of a foafoa or Conch. So here it.

What is Culture

Culture’s are what make countries unique. Each country has different cultural activities and cultural rituals. Culture is seen in people writing, religion, music, clothes, cooking and what they do.

Culture also includes the way people understand the world and their own lives. Different countries have different culture’s. For example, some older Japanese people wear kimono’s, arrange flowers in vases and have tea ceremonies.

My family comes from two places, one from place is from Samoa so I’m half Samoan. In Samoa we do a lot of dancing, eating and those sort of things. I have only been to Samoa once but I want to go again, because it was really, really fun.

The other place where I come from is New Zealand, which means that I am half Pakeha not half Maori. In this culture it's pretty much normal culture that most people in New Zealand is. L
