What to do...

.. in a power cut at night and your siblings are looking after you.

WALT:  I will identify the different places speeches/talks are given and how they are designed for delivery.

I’m pretty sure everyone’s gone through a power cut in the night right. (wait for them to say yea). Well have you ever gone through one well your parents are out and your older siblings are looking after you BUT REALLY they're just on their phones with their data and do not care about a thing you do? I have so I’m gonna give you some tips on what to do.

Tip one, light a candle. For this you need a match and a candle. Or maybe a few matches. First light the match. Second, light the candle. Third, blow out the candle and light it again for fun. Great tip. I tried the last instruction and it made no difference.

Tip two, save the ice-cream. Use the candle to find the ice-cream. The ice-cream is on the verge of melting. Be a superhero for your family and eat the ice-cream. It’s gonna be hard but you gotta do it. If you can find any chocolate sauce that is melting(even though can’t melt) pour it on top.

After finishing the ice-cream, put the bowl and spoon in the dishwasher. Even though it’s not going to turn on. You might feel like eating that ice-cream was tiring. I mean lifting the spoon from the bowl or container all the way into your mouth. Now we move onto tip three, sleep until the power turns on and your parents come back. Unless it’s past your bedtime, get up and convince your parents that your siblings ate the ice-cream. You may never experience this. But now you know I have.

This speech is a draft from last week. You can revisit my blog this week to read the completed Speech. By the way I have a video but it wouldn't load. Also you can't hear the video but I'm saying the same thing as what is written. This is a screenshot and it's part of the video.

Home Learning Week 2

This week's task: Maths focus (as this was the most popular choice from our recent survey!)

This week I really wanted to do my home learning. I kept forgetting about it so I just posted it on a Sunday. One thing I thought I really need to work on is maths whizz. Its not looking very well. I guess this week I can boost my minutes up. My goal for this week is to have more than 50 minutes of maths whizz.

Diagram of Heat Transfer Process

WALT: Make a diagram based on what your learning.

Here is a diagram on heat transfer process. I focused on huskies. Obliviously they live in the snow so they would have transferred. One interesting thing that I learnt is that huskies has air pockets in between their two layers of fur.

Statistical Literacy

WALT: Interpret information from a pie graph and bar graph.

This week in maths, we learnt about reading information through pie and bar graphs. I learnt that bar graph tells you the number and pie graph the percentage. A bar graph has a lines with the options at the bottom and amount of numbers on the side. Bar graph can also be shown a different way to what I shown. Pie graphs are in the shape of a circle and show shaded shapes in the pie graph. These 'shaded shapes' are the percentages. It kind of looks like a pie cut in pieces. I guess that's where it gets it name.

12 x 12 Grid

WALT: Practise our 12 x 12.

Today we did our daily 12 x 12 grid. Everyone had ten minutes to do it. I really proud of myself because I finished at 7 minutes and 7 seconds. That's my record. It may not be as fast as others, but I think its a good time. Can't wait to try and beat tomorrow.

Multiplication Pyramid

WALT: Find a rule to a sequential pattern
For this activity, we used our multiplication skills to find out the top number.  As you can see the numbers keep getting bigger and bigger.  How this pyramid works is that the numbers next to each other is multiplied by each other.  For example:

This 5 and 2 are multiplied by each other to make 10.

I did this all the way up the pyramid until I got to the number 192,756,122,160.  Also known as one hundred and ninety two billion, seven hundred and fifty six million, one hundred twenty two thousand and one hundred and sixty.

Three Kete Poster

WALA (we are learning about): How some story can just be...
one story that has many versions but all have the main message.

This week, we learnt about the three kete and what they mean.  We had a story we read about the three kete.  Also we had a presentation with questions we answered with the information from the piece of writing.  Our task was to create a poster that uses the kete as a way to encourage students with the idea of Gathering and Storing.

Decimals Intro

WALT: We are learning to multiply decimals and how to read out numbers with decimal.

This is the maths presentation for the week that I filled out. I learnt a lot about decimals. One thing we focused on was the place value of a decimal. We also learnt where the decimal point goes.

Thinkboard- Week 2

WALT: Work with decimals.

Last week we focused on decimals. We learnt about place value in decimals. Our teacher gave us a few questions before we started our think-board. For example: 11.34 x 0.6. The answer to this will be 6.804. One thing that I learnt is when you have the answer with no decimal, count how many numbers after the decimal point were
there in the original question. Count from the right hand side the numbers after the decimal point and that decimal point will go.

Multiplication and Division- Week 2

WALT: Solve story problems using only multiplication and division strategies.

In week two we used a lot of algorithms and I was challenge. This post was very late but I still remember how I struggled with this presentation. I am fine with working with a algorithm but I did struggle. Here is an example for a problem and solution:
532
x 23
1596
10640
12236
I have learnt that if the bottom number has a number in the tens unit, it will always start with a zero. Just like the zero made bold. I think that the presentations after week 2 were much better with the solving.

Definition Of Adaptation

WALT: Find the meaning of Adaptation

Definition From Google:
Noun
a change or the process of change by which an organism or species becomes better suited to its environment.

What I think:
Noun
I think that adaptation a species that has changed the way the live in their environment. They have to be living there, or have been living how they live for hundreds or millions of years, the species can not just change the way they live and move on.

Example:
One animal who I think adapts well is the Diving Bell Spider. They live their entire life under water in a air bubble. They only have to come up to the surface once a day to fill their air bubble. Except for that they live under water. The air bubble is made of web that they make to make webs.

The San Diego Zoo

WALT: Think about my purpose and reader by planning my recount.

The class was called to the mat and our teacher said that we were, “going to the Zoo”! Everyone was excited until we saw on our class site that we were just going to visit the San Diego Zoo website. I was very very very very…  disappointed.

In writing we have been learning like writing two introductions and marking one. This one my friend marked and I thought that I would put in the first one I wrote on my blog. Comment to say if you agree with Rima or not.

Maths Teacher Lesson-Week 2

WALT: Add and Subtract.

This week in Maths teacher lesson always to look at the number on the right before answering. The reason why to do this is so that you know if the number is going to end up in the next column. For example: 273+183=?. The way that I solve this is by doing this, 3+3=6, 170+180=350 then add the other hundred. The answer that I ended up with in the end is, 456. So my advice for you is to use this way to solve addition and subtraction questions.

Maths Teacher Lesson-Week 2

WALT: Add and subtract.

Last week in maths teacher lesson, we learnt how to add and subtract. We mostly looked at decimals and then we made them into fractions. For example; 2.4. The way I solve the question is by doing this; there is 2 and there 4/10, so if we add those together, it would equal to 2 and 4/10. So 2.4 in fractions would equal to 2 and 4/10's.

Maths Problem Solving-Week 2

WALT: Add and Subtract Decimals.

In Maths for this week, I have learnt about subtracting decimals. I have learnt that when subtracting decimals, always go to the small number first. For example; 4.7-2.9=?. The way that I use to work this out is, 0.7-1.9=0.8. I still have these numbers leftover to subtract, 4-1=3. So the aweser must be 1.8.

Probability with two dices

WALT:Make predictions with dices.

This week in Maths we have been learning about probability. Our challenge was to...
  • Pick six cubes that are two colours and put them a envelope
  • Swap with another group
  • Guess how many cubes are one colour and guess how many is the other colour
Me and Waimaria had fun doing this challenge. I hope you enjoy!
