Our Makey-Makey Project

WALT: Use the Makey Makey kit.

Makey-makey kit is a toy that allows users to connect everyday objects to computer programs. In class we got into groups and made different projects. Our task in our extension class were to get into groups of 4 or lower. Every group had to pick a project that includeed using the makey-makey kit. One choice was a game show. Their goal was to make a noise when a buzzer is pressed. Another choice was a band. Create instruments and play a song. The last choice was to make a game controller. This controller had to be suitable for one sort of disability.

I was in a group with Moroni and Seini. We made controllers for a game that would be suitable for one disability. Our controllers were made to be suitable for people with amputated arms. This is our game looked like this.
I was surprised to find out that I actually know quite a bit with the makey-makey kit. This game is a two player version of beat the goalie. It's supposed to be a rugby match between Australia and New Zealand. Even though all three of us worked on this, I think I really helped with the game. Moroni was good with the makey-makey and Seini with making the control. We all learnt something different from each other.

Everyone in our class really enjoyed our game. I enjoyed it to. From a scale of 1 to 10(1 being bad 10 being great) I rate this game a 8. The controls are easy to use but the game could use some more bling.

This is our reflection on our speeches. It's pretty much our thoughts on our speech. I really think I can improve next time.

Probability Slides

WALT: Calculate the probability of the event happening.

This week I wrote my description in it's own blog post. You can read if you want. It below this post.

Probability Reflection

WALT: Calculate the probability of an event happening.

Task: Write a reflection about this weeks maths.

This week we learnt about probability. I have learnt that probability is actually helpful. It could be helpful when trying to figure out the Weather. Almost everyday you use probability to plan around the weather. Meteorologists don't know what the weather will be. Because of that they use tools and instruments to find out the chance that it will rain, snow or hail. Example; if there's a 70-percent chance of hail, then conditions of the weather are such that 70 out of 100 days with similar conditions, it has hailed. Maybe you'll take a raincoat rather than a singlet or just an umbrella to work/school. I think that my goal this week was to follow the WALT. That's what I have done. I calculating the probability of an event happening. Such as the coin toss (you'll find it in the presentation). An event such as the coin toss was calculated by it's probability.

Scratch Game Reflection

WALT: Create a game on Scratch.

Last term in extension we created a game on scratch to help us with our knowledge with code. I really did learn a lot and you can see that in this reflection. Ata, Ana and I made this game together. Some parts were fun and other challenging. Here's the link to our game.

2015 and 2016

WALT: Write a reflection of what gained in 2015 and write what I look forward to in 2016.

2015: What I gained

Last year I gained a lot of things and one of them is leadership. I learnt that leadership can be shown in the smallest ways. For example when an issue arises you go and solve it. That is  a little example of leadership. I really gained it at the year six camp at Kawau island. I was a leader of a group and I really embraced the leadership.

2016: What I look forward to

This year I look forward to getting ready for being a year eight next year. I think when I year seven I would of learnt more and then I can be ready for year eight. From what I have seen I think in year eight you need leadership. Last year I gained some but I hope to gain more. I really look forward to being a year eight.

Our School Production-Reflection

Reflection
On the twenty second to the twenty fourth of September, our school had a production. The Production was about Cindy who meets a boy named Josh. It was a production about Cinderella but Pt England style though. I was in the production, sadly nothing important but still in it. Even though I was nothing important, I still enjoy being a dancer.

Since I was a dancer, I was in three dances. I really hope I can be in the next production. Before the Production was seen by an audience, we had to practise hard every week. The first real audience we performed to two whole schools, a bit of another school and other people who do extra things for us in our school. We performed for them at twelve o’clock on the twenty first of September.

On the first night of the production, I was really scared to perform in front of my family. I just acted like my sister who was the main act (Cindy)  and pretended that I wasn’t scared. When I went onto the stage I was not that nervous. All I was thinking about was what I would do in the holidays and how I could make it fun for myself. I am pretty sure that I looked good from a view in the audience.

Review
On the twenty first, twenty second, twenty third, twenty fourth and twenty fifth our school produced a production about Cindy. The whole title is Cindy In Da House, the production was about a story based on Cinderella but a bit different. On the twenty first, the matinee was shown to three other schools other than Pt England School and two preschools.

The three other days it was shown at night at seven o’clock. On the twenty fifth, the production was performed to the whole school who was there. It was not as good as the night productions and the matinee.

Because it was performed four times, that meant a lot of practice for the people in the production. Lots of people said it was great so the people in the production didn’t practise for nothing. Cindy In The House was awesome from my point of view, but I don’t know about the next production. If I were to give a rating a would give it a big 4/5.

Term 2 Reflection

WALT: Write effect paragraphs on your own about the term.

I have learnt lots of thing in term two for this year. For example; I have learnt how to put examples in writing, also new words, what are word classes, what are similes and loads more. In my maths class I have learnt how to solve a fraction problem with fractions, and in literacy class I have learnt how to write effect paragraphs and put more detail in it.

Sadly the term has come to an end. There is only half a day left and I will try and spend it well. This term has been crazy, first I have to do two animations, then next thing I know I have a broken leg. Then I have to finish two projects, one in the Maker Space and the other in our literacy class. It has been crazy, but I have learnt a lot, in class and at home.

The good news is that I have got a new Duffy book! Duffy is a reading company for schools and other places like that. I got the book called Oliver Twist written by Charles Dickens. I look forward to reading it during the holidays, because I will have something to do. It is very long and I am a slow reader, so I think I will be reading it for a while, a long while.

This term has come to an end. But there is always next term. There is also the boring holiday for me because I have a broken leg, so I can't do much. I will try to read my book during the holidays and get half way though it. The link to 'Charles Dickens', it might not be the same person.

Super Mario Explaining!

WALT: Write effective paragraphs.

Super Mario World is a game that is available on your Chromebook, Laptop, Playstation and other digital forms. It is a side scroller game so the screen scrolls past when you move with the keys or controllers. The game Super Mario World is very popular, in fact if I had to ask anyone that is an adult or a child that is year four and higher, they would know right away because it is that popular.

The aim of the game is to dodge the enemies, collect the star, go though all of the levels. There is an option, of jumping on the enemies to make them disappear, you can collect a mushroom that make Super Mario bigger, because he starts in a small version at the beginning of each level. On Chromebooks and Laptops, there are normally ten levels or less that you need to complete. But for the other digital forms like Playstation, Xbox and Nintendo, the levels are harder and longer but still probably have ten levels.

If you are playing on a Laptop, Chromebook, Netbook the controls would be on the keyboard, up, down, right and left. But if you are playing on something like a Xbox or a Playstation, the controls for the game are your controller that comes with what you are playing with. On your controller or key, it is a bit easier if you hover your hand on the P, just in case you need to press it or if you are with the enemies and need to pause. When you make the enemies disappear, you have to jump on them and if you miss then you disappear and start the level again.

I think that the game Super Mario World is very funny for me because I normally disappearing because of the enemies and keep starting the level over and over again. Sometimes it does get very boring and annoying so I get off the game and do something else for a while. The good news is that I have been playing the game for three days (not the whole day) and now I am at level five and trying to get onto level six, I hope I get to level six!

In Writing this week, we did a writing session and we sat and wrote in silence. I thought that it was very good writing session. We all were on task and every body got their writing done. After each paragraph, we had a look at somebody's and made it a better paragraph. I think that every body in our class has a great piece of writing!
