Telephone's Years of Existence

WALT: Create an animation that gives information about one piece of technolog

This is two terms late but it still is finished. Our task was to create an animation that show one piece of technology throughout it's years of existence. My piece of technology was a telephone. In this animation I show three different telephones.

Phases of the moon

WALT: Learn all the phases of the moon.

These are the phases of the moon viewed from the Southern Hemisphere. I quite like the moon. It's great. I wonder what's it like to walk on it. Only twelve people know what it like to walk on the moon. Can't wait to learn more.

Scratch Game Reflection

WALT: Create a game on Scratch.

This term we have made a game on scratch. Scratch is a website that allows you to create all kind of things with code. In extension we have gotten into groups of two or three and made a shooting/maze game set in space. The game has three levels and lots of challenges. My partners name is Mo. He drew most of the backgrounds, targets and sprites(characters).

The most challenging part of all of this had to be the coding. I learnt a few new tricks from last term. The coding in level three was pretty hard. Trying to get the alien to move. It just wouldn't work! But Finally it worked and heres the finished product.

All of the levels have the own stripes and we had their challenges. On level one the challenge was the background. It just wouldn't listen to our code. But with the magic of other coding blocks put together, we finally got to level two. Our second level is a shooting level. We found it difficult to get the gun to actually shoot. Lucky enough Mo and I watched different tutorials and found out what we needed to do. The last level had the hardest challenge which you know all ready. To get the alien to move!

You can play the game and find out what you think of it. Make sure you look at the instructions (on the right) before playing. Heres the link. Below is a little of what it looks like.

Multiplication Pyramid

WALT: Practise our multiplication.

This week in maths we had a pyramid to multiply. So how it works is the you multiply the first row. For example, 9 x 2 on the right hand bottom corner. That would equal to 18.

Home Learning Week 8

Home Learning Focus: Maths

This presentation for home learning is from last week. I was very busy this week and there hasn't been a home learning since week 6. So I didn't get to start it until the weekend. Here it is! I think I have improved in maths whizz a lot. In two weeks I've got lots of minutes of maths whizz. It's pretty cool.

Inquiry Diary 1

Walt: Make a model for toilets.

In inquiry we are building or making something to improve the school. We decided that we should make toilet model. There's gonna be two toilets for the year seven and eight boys and girls. My group is with Javan, Yvonne and myself. Our actual model hasn't got much progress. But our sketches have real detail. The sketches have gone from paper to digital. We used floor planner to get the design. The boys toilet needs a little work but it is to come very soon. Here's the floor planner idea.

Sweet as poetry

WALT: Oral language - Analyse and adapt spoken texts with expression and confidence.
SUCCESS CRITERIA: Acknowledgements when reading lines of a play or poem, punctuation- pauses, taking a breath, volume (expression and moods)

This week our focus in reading is poetry. We read four poems and answered some questions. They were all very interesting but I found that the 'embarrassment expert' was my favourite. I can relate to it. Embarrassment is occurring in my life. I get embarrassed so much. That poem is my favourite because I can relate to it.

Space Tech

WALA(we are learning about): Space technology.

I read from this website and here's a short explanation about it.

For a long time people have dreamed about going to space. The earliest work on rockets engines were  designed for spaceflight occurred during the early 20th century in three countries by three scientists. In Russia, by Konstantin Tsiolkovsky; in the United States, by Robert Goddard; and in Germany, by Hermann Oberth. On October 4, 1957 the soviets launched the first artificial satellite called Sputnik 1. Four years later, Yuri Gagarin became the first human to orbit the earth in Vostok 1. His last flight took 108 minutes with an altitude of 327 kilometers(that’s about 202 miles).

Home Learning Week 6

Home Learning: Maths Focus.

Last week I forgot to complete the home learning. So here it is now. I think I still need to keep up my math whizz usage. This week's is much better than last.

Hundredths

WALT: Recognise and understand hundredths.

This week in maths we learnt about hundredths. Hundredths are two numbers after the decimal point. I did this presentation for a refresh. I know about hundredths but I wanted to do this because I needed to have a little reminder. There is also another presentation which is about the same thing but more slides. I tried to finish that. It's nearly finish and I think it reminded me more of hundredths than this.

Early Finish Data Usage

WALT: Collect and organise data.

This week in maths we learnt about data usage. This is NOT a repost. It's another presentation. The questions are based around the same things. As you can see this is for early finishers. Even though it's Thursday I think it's counts as a early finish.

Data Usage

WALT: Collect and organise data.

This week in maths we learnt about data usage. I especially learnt about probability. A refresh came back to me about the Mean, Median, Mode and Range. The Mean is all the numbers added then divided by how many numbers there are. The Median is the middle number when the numbers are put in numerical order. The mode is the most occurred number. The Range is the difference between the lowest and highest number.

Netball Break

WALT: Write a recount about a current event.

The only sport that I play in the winter is netball. I play Netball on Tuesday evenings. All games are held at the AMI netball courts. My first game for this season was held on week two of school. For the first time since year five I played center. It took me a while to refresh my memory but I got there in the end.

When the umpire came to get the captain, I was chosen. I played gang gang gamore with the other captain to decide whose goal is whose. When we had finished, I realized that I had to pick out of ball or goal. A few seconds later I responded with ‘ball’. My coach was very happy with that response.

A whistle was blew and we played. We won that game by 10 points. The end score was 18 to 8. Our next game was a draw. In these two games I’d been in the B team. The coach of the A team was watching the second game. She was looking for somebody to join her team. I took that position and played the next week.

I was dropped off a bit too early and couldn’t see my team. It took a few minutes before I found them. We had a few warm up activities before it was time. Two years ago I spent one game in the A team before I broke my leg. Because of that I was very nervous.

It was two minutes into the game and I felt like I needed to work harder. I went in for an intercept, walked backwards trip on a girls foot. Still trying to get the intercept, I twisted my leg and smashed my leg on the court. Pain was making me cry all the way to the aid room.

So the conclusion to this is that I broke my leg and I love netball! I have to wait a month until I can play again but I just can’t wait. It’s been a week and three days but I still remember it like it was yesterday.

This week I in writing I wanted to write something that's been happening in my life. I thought about all the possibilities and I thought this was the best. I really think that netball's a great sport. If you haven't already... try it! Unless your like me and have to wait a bit.

Complex Sentences

WALT: Use complex sentences in our writing.

This week in writing we learnt about complex sentences. A complex sentence is...
a type of sentence that are made up of one main idea that is supported by one or more related ideas. The main ideas does not need to come first. These sort of sentences need punctuation, usually commas. Complex sentences contain a independent clause and a dependent clause.

Home Learning Week 4

WALT: Complete the presentation.
This week's task: Maths focus (as this was the most popular choice from our recent survey).

This presentation for home learning is from last week. Since I was at camp I didn't get to start it until the weekend. Here it is! I think that the main thing I need to work on is maths whizz. In maths class we don't have much time. When I come home, I'm gonna try to do maths whizz for a good 10 minutes a day.

Biogas

WALT: Evaluating - I gather, and synthesise to evaluate information across a range of texts
SUCCESS CRITERIA: I can clearly outline what the texts have in common and how they differ.Summarise functional technology in texts.

This week we learnt about Biogas in New Zealand and India. Our first text was about Biogas in India it's made. The second text is about New Zealand landfills and how Biogas can be made from rubbish. My favourite thing that I learnt is that Biogas can be made in very different ways. From a concrete sort of machinery to a rubbish landfill.

Probability Slides

WALT: Calculate the probability of the event happening.

This week I wrote my description in it's own blog post. You can read if you want. It below this post.

Scratch Game Term 2

Today we had extension class. This term our focus is based around technology. Some people are in the middle of making a game. My group just started making the game so we have to catch up a bit. We have started our first level. It's supposed to be a maze in mars. Here's what it looks like.

Thats only our first level. There is two more levels to come. I can't wait to finish it off and start playing it. My partner is Moroni. We are trying to make our game better and better.
