Number Knowledge

WALT: Add and subtract negative numbers.

Last week in maths we learnt about adding and subtracting. We learnt that negative numbers can be very useful in life. For example when you buy something and give money over the price, you should know the change you need back.

Home Learning Week 4

WALT: Complete the presentation.
This week's task: Maths focus (as this was the most popular choice from our recent survey).

This presentation for home learning is from last week. Since I was at camp I didn't get to start it until the weekend. Here it is! I think that the main thing I need to work on is maths whizz. In maths class we don't have much time. When I come home, I'm gonna try to do maths whizz for a good 10 minutes a day.

Reading Diagram and Probability

WALT: Interpret information from different graphs.

Last week in maths I finished off this presentation. Basically each slide asks questions about the picture to the side. Read and answer was the instructions. I found this presentation not to be a learning thing but a reminder. A reminder of last year and past week's knowledge.

Maths Word Problem

WALT: Illustrate (draw/show) the steps we used to solve each problem.
This week we learnt to show how we solved the question. Sometimes our activities require just the answer. This week we have shown our solutions. If you click to the last slide, you will see our task was to create a poster. My poster is the question is the first question on the first slide. My solution for some questions were a bit of a challenge, but it was fine. I learnt that if I can't solve a mutiplication number, I just split the number.

Thinkboard - Week 4

WALT: Use B.E.D.M.A.S more often.

In Week 4, we learnt about B.E.D.M.A.S in maths. For my think-board, I used B.E.D.M.A.S to solve the question. I learnt what B.E.D.M.A.S is and what the letters stand for.
B- Brackets, solve whats in the brackets first.
E- Exponents, solve any exponents.
D- Division, if there is any division in the question, answer it.
M- Multiplication, solve any multiplication problems.
A- Addition, add any numbers that need to be added.
S- Subtraction, Subtract any numbers that need to be subtracted.
That is what I learnt in week 4.

Sentence Types

WALT: I understand what different types of sentence I can use in my writing.

We have been learning about different types of sentences. We learnt about simple, compound and complex sentences and how to make them. My favourite sentence type is the compound sentence. It is my favourite because  I love finding conjunctions that suites my sentence.

Addition/Subtraction

WALT: Use prior knowledge of fractions to solve the following word problems.

In week 4, we learnt about addition and subtraction in our math stages. We did not learnt about easy questions like 2+2=4. Our class solved adding and subtracting questions based around fractions and decimals.

Thinkboard - Week 4

WALT: Add and Subtract decimals.

This week we focused our learning around subtracting decimals. Something I learnt this week is to never split up the first number of the equation, while partitioning. For example: 2.867 - 0.242 would equal to 2.625. This is how I solved it.
2.867-0.002=2.865
2.865-0.04=2.825
2.825-0.2=2.652
So the answer is 2.625. As you can see I split the second number and left the first number, the same.

Olympic Medals

WALT: Learn more about the Olympics and find information through different sites.

This week we are making presentations based around the Olympics. I choose to learn about the medals in the Olympics. One thing that I learnt really stood out. It was that the Gold medal has not been 100% made of Gold since the 1912 Olympics. Since then the Gold medal has been mostly Silver. I hope that you learnt something from this.

Thinkboard - 2

WALT: Express remainders as decimals.

This took me a while to figure out so here it is and hope you can see it. Seini (my friend) helped me and we marked each others work. There will be more of these think boards and I hope I will keep up with my work.

Book Review - The Legend of the Skull Cliff

WALT: Write a book review based on a book we have read this year.

I read this book last term but I am posting it now. I still remember it like I read it yesterday. This books came me the shivers, and sometimes in class I would gasp because something amazing happen in the story. It was a mystery from the time the boy was introduced. If you haven't read the book try to find online or at your local library.

The Promise

WALT: (a) I make, confirm and refine predictions before, during and after. (b) Summarising - I draw conclusions, and make generalisations.

I am sorry I haven't posted this earlier in the term but here it is. Our task was complete this presentation and learn at least two things. I have learnt a few new meanings of some words I already know. I have also learnt that if you disagree with somebody, don't be mean and turn a argument into a fight.

Advice Blog-Fitness Watch

WALT: Think critically about what we read.

In Reading this week, I have learnt how to make decisions when it comes to advertisements. I have learnt to always look at the custom reviews. Once I looked at the ad for the product and it made it look great. Then I looked at the reviews and I thought again about the product. So my advice for you is to look at the reviews before buying something.

Problem Solving-Week 4

WALT: Add and Subtract.

In Problem Solving this week, I have learnt to look at the number in the right. For example:1893-546=?, before I answer I am going to look at the last two numbers. So 13-16=7, after that we solve the rest of the question. The end result would be 1347.(if you did not know, Moi means me in French)

Terry Christchurch Interview

WALT: Find proof of the authors message.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Terry is a young boy who lives in New Zealand and loves playing video games especially the game called Krang Castle. Terry has a Mum and a pet mouse called mickey and had to live with his Aunt and Cousins for a few months until their house was built, his happen after the 2011 Christchurch earthquake.

What are your thoughts on the Christchurch earthquake?
I thought it was a tragedy and I was very upset because some of my family lived there and they had to live with us for a few months until their home was built and they left recently and gave me the game which is called Krang Castle. I was also very upset because the people who survived, had their homes destroyed but I did ask my mum if I or she could do anything for them, so we went down to Christchurch and help some people there who were in trouble.

If an earthquake hit your city, what would it mean for you?
It would mean a lot because my mother or my mouse Mickey might get hurt or it could be worse than that and I would be alone. Another thing is my computer will be gone and I cannot play on my video games. This would only happen if the level of the earthquake was high then this would happen. I might even have to go and live with someone else for a few months like my aunt and cousins

How would your react in an earthquake?
I would be scared and do what they taught me at school for the last seven years which is…  Drop, Roll, Cover. I think I would go underneath a strong table or chair and tell my mother and bring my little mouse Mickey with me.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::Task:Write an Interview on who your charter from your story about the Christchurch earthquake  in 2011.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This week in reading we were learning about finding and digging into the text of the book and find the proof of the authors message. If you thought this was a good bad or great interview, comment to tell me how it was. I hope you enjoyed!

Two Pigs are Murdered and One little Pigs Survives

WALT:Write a news style report.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Talita V
12/5/15

Three little pigs who recently have left their mothers home have been viciously attacked in their own homes. Two have had their homes destroyed as well as been killed by a wolf. The last pig survived the attack without being injured.

One of the little pigs who have been killed, build his home with straw and the wolf was able to blow his home down as well as to eat him. The other little pig who were killed by the wolf, built his home out of wood sticks and the wolf was able to blow down his home and eat him. These two pigs were found dead by their destroyed homes.

The last pig who survived was smart and built his home out of bricks just like his Mothers home. He tricked the wolf and killed the wolf instead of the wolf killing him. He did this without getting hurt or injured. He was the smartest and we had a talk with him. Here it is and his Mama pig.

The last pig
What was your reaction when you found out about your brothers loss? I was very upset and went to see my Mama pig to tell her and she was very upset and said to me”you have to live with me now” so now I am living with her in case there is another wolf to attack me.
Were you worried about the wolf when he came to your home? I had a little butterflies in my tummy (but I think that was something else) because I saw that my brothers homes were knocked down ,but I knew that the wolf wouldn't blow down my because it was strong and I knew I could trick him.
page 2 Were you sad when you and your brothers left your Mama Pig? I am now but I did go back to my Mama pig but I am very upset that I could not bring back my brothers with me.

Mama Pig
What was your reaction when you found out about your son’s loss? I was very upset and every day I think of them and now it is a very sad day every day because of the wolf that nearly killed me and killed my son's.
What is your house made out of? It is made out of bricks just like my son’s home that he is going to live in when I say so, it is made out of bricks because of the wolf when he nearly killed me. The wolf did blow down my first home made of straw and the second home that was made out of wood sticks and then I made this home for my son's.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This week in writing, we have been learning about a lot about writing reports. Comment to tell me how my one was. Hope you enjoyed!

Week 4 Blog Post

Did you know that in 2014 (this year) we lit our fireworks on the same night as Britain? If you guest that I'm writing about fireworks you are right. On this day there was lots and lots of fireworks. Some frighted me, some I thought were pretty, some that I wanted to see but nobody did them and some we didn't get but I thought look awesome. Our family did our fireworks twice cause we had a lot. We did our fireworks on Wednesday and Saturday. On Wednesday we had 24 sparkles and on Saturday we had 32 sparkles. Even though we didn't have cascades, my favourite was cascades, it looks a bit like this.

If you think that I did anything wrong or there's anything else you want to tell me leave a comment telling me anything.

Chicken Bones

Do you love K.F.C?   Don't you feel like eating right now? Well I'm going to tell you how to get some right now.
Did I draw your attention? The text that you are going to read, is about a theory about Polynesians went to South America or if South Americans came to Polynesia.

Chicken bones were used to find out if South Americans came to Polynesia, or if the Polynesians went to the South America. They also found out that the chickens came from Polynesians, then to South America. Radiocarbon date of the chicken bones are used to help find out about history. The people who study about this, are called archaeologist.
